The Daredevil Who Cooked Breakfast Over Niagara Falls

The Great Blondin's High-Wire Brunch 🍳\n\nOn June 30, 1859, French daredevil Charles Blondin became the first person to cross Niagara Falls on a tightrope. While most people would be paralyzed with fear, Blondin treated the 1,100-foot journey 160 feet above the water like a casual Sunday stroll.\n\nBlondin was the ultimate showman. During his many crossings that summer, he didn't just walk; he crossed blindfolded, in a sack, and even pushing a wheelbarrow. Most famously, he once carried a portable stove onto the wire, cooked an omelet, and lowered it to a tour boat below. He even convinced his terrified manager, Harry Colcord, to ride on his back for a crossing. Blondin reportedly told the trembling man, "Look up, Harry... you are no longer Colcord, you are Blondin. If I sway, sway with me." The duo made it across safely, though Harry probably never asked for a piggyback ride again!
