The Profane Parrot of the Presidency

While October 11th is often marked by serious historical milestones, one of the most amusing anecdotes associated with the date involves the legacy of President Andrew Jackson. Jackson was known for his fiery temper, but he had a feathered friend who was arguably even more colorful. His pet parrot, Poll, was so well-acquainted with the President's vocabulary that it had to be unceremoniously ejected from Jackson's 1845 funeral. According to historical accounts, the bird had picked up a rather impressive repertoire of profanity and vulgar language directly from the President himself. It seems that even in the solemn halls of history, a parrot with a potty mouth can turn a somber occasion into a moment of unexpected, albeit scandalous, comedy!
