The Day a President Refused to Let a Bullet Stop the Show
On October 14, 1912, history witnessed one of the most stubborn displays of grit ever recorded. While campaigning in Milwaukee, former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt was shot in the chest by an assassin. Most people would head straight to the hospital, but not 'Teddy.' With the bullet still lodged in his chest, he proceeded to deliver a scheduled 90-minute speech! He famously began by telling the stunned crowd, 'I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot—but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.' Talk about a tough act to follow!
